The real-life farmer behind the “Vrrrooommm – Farming for Kids” video series is actually a farmer named Farmer Bill. Bill Wickham grew up on a family farm in Flint, New York, and has been growing and selling pumpkins since he was eight years old. He and his wife, Debbie, own Wickham Farms near Rochester, New York, where they grow pumpkins and many other crops, and also offer fun family attractions. Farmer Bill noticed that the kids who visited his farm loved to watch the trucks, tractors and other farm equipment in action. He decided to write and produce videos that captured the excitement of the latest high-tech farm equipment, and in the process taught children about how things are grown. He drew not only from his real-life farming experience, but also from his education at Cornell University, where he earned his degree in agricultural economics. The talented actor who plays Farmer Bill in the farming videos perfectly captures Bill Wickham’s love of farming, enthusiasm for farm equipment and silly sense of humor. The Wickhams’ three children -- Kevin, Paige and Dale -- appear on the covers of the videos. And a calf in the “Dairy Farming for Kids” video walks into the real Farmer Bill’s kitchen! The real Farmer Bill hopes the “Vrrrooommm – Farming for Kids” video series inspires children to love farming the way he and his family does. And if you’re ever in Rochester, New York, please visit Wickham Farms and say “hi.” Bill Wickham is probably the guy driving the big tractor! |
